Manteno Sportsmen's Club - Manteno, Illinois

Fishing / Conservation

Fishing is permitted by all members. You must have a valid Illinois fishing license. All Illinois State Game Laws apply. The club has a conservation committee that oversees the stocking and maintenance of the lake. The conservation committee meets monthly and is always looking for volunteers and committee members.

The lake is well stocked with good sized bass, bluegill, crappie, and channel catfish. During the winter ice fishing season the Club provides trout for those that enjoy ice fishing. Through the assistance of the Illinois Department of Conservation, the Manteno Sportsmen's Club Conservation Committee keeps a close eye on the quality of our aquatic in the lake.

The Conservation Committee also hosts several events throughout the year.
Wild Game Feed, Fish Boils, Spring Cleanup and Barbeque, just to name a few. Proceeds from these events go toward stocking the lake with fish, addition of trees on the property and improvements around the lakeshore.

Boats are permitted on the lake. All boats must be registered with the harbormaster, and copies of the rules are available. We also allow 45 watercraft to be registered as "Pleasure Craft." If you are interested in a Pleasure Craft sticker, please contact the Harbor Master to be placed on the waiting list. There is no limit on the number of fishing boats allowed on the lake. Fishing days are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Pleasure craft days are Wednesday, Friday, Sunday, and Holidays. Boat registration requirements and fees are included in the rules.

Conservation Committee also maintains the Club's association with several Sporting groups including Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, Wild Turkey Federation, Northern Illinois Anglers, Whitetails Unlimited and the National Rifle Association.
